Week 4

This week I have started to get my life back to normal after my surgery.  On Thursday I started working again part time and I am starting back full time on Monday.  I just worked until noon on Thursday but then I went home and fell asleep for several hours because I was exhausted.

On Thursday I went for a walk with some of my friends.  We walked around the lake by my house and it was a 4km walk and I completed it.  Unfortunatly I think it was a little bit to far because I left work at 11:30 am on Friday because I was so tired and then I was still so tired on Saturday I could hardly stay awake all day.  So I guess that was a little bit too far for my first walk that was farther then a walk around the block.

So because I walked so much on the Thursday I was completely wiped out and slept most of Friday and Saturday to compensate for this but I am glad I pushed myself and am planning on doing it again this week.

On Monday I had my 3 week follow up with Dr. Birch.  He was very happy with my weight loss so far and said I looked a lot better then I did when I was discharged.  I actually have colour on my face.  It is hard to believe that it has almost been one month since my surgery.  I have taken some pictures so maybe on Friday I will post them since it has been one month that day.

Also I have been back to work.  I am trying to do it full time but I have not made it a complete day yet without thinking if I don't go home now I will fall asleep well I am driving but I just have to remember I just had major surgery so I am entitled to take it easy for a little while.

Week 3

So I am going to try this again.  I have been trying to post from my phone for the last day and it keeps on saying publishing but the post does publish.  I am not sure what the problem with it I have done it from my phone before and it works.

This past week I have started to reintroduce food in my diet.  Before this I was on a full fluid diet.  I was able to eat yogurt  tomato soup, milk, runny oatmeal and anything that never had large chunks in it.  Now I am able to eat items that are recommended on the sheet my dietitian has given me.  So I am able to things like boiled eggs, cheese, stew, chili, hamburger, chicken and lots of other items.  I just have to make sure I focus on eating protein.  I have a protein goal of 76 to 100 grams of protein every day and it is difficult to make this goal because you are eating so little food.  I have been getting around 40 grams of protein everyday and I am slowly increasing the calories that I am eating.

I have lost another 8 pounds this week and I am feeling stronger every day.  I am gong to be starting work on Thursday and we will see how that goes.

Week 2

Today is two weeks since surgery and I am doing much better.  I have stopped taking all of my pain meds and I am starting to feel more normal.  Starting tomorrow I can start to introduce food bake into my diet.  I am supposed to start with one food.  Then the next meal add another food and then finally put the foods together.  Its going to be a long process but I am somewhat looking forward to it.

It is really weird.  I have not eaten any food in 5 weeks and I still am not hungry at all.  I guess drinking all the time makes you full.

I am going to have to focus on my protein.  Before surgery they were always focusing on calories and now it is protein as you need this to ensure that your muscles and hair do not start to become weak.  Its going to be a complete life changing experience.  I just have to remember all of the rules.  You have to wait 30 minutes after drinking before you can eat, limit any sugar intake and you can only eat a little bit at a time or you are going to be sick.

I went to see a new specialist today and she has taken me off of all of my pills.  Now instead of taking pills I am just going to be having regular ultrasounds to follow up and see if the cancer is returning or not.

Since surgery day I have lost 16 pounds in the last 2 weeks and 52 pounds since January.

Week 1

Today I am one week out from my surgery. It was a lot harder of a recovery then I thought it would be. I ended up in the hospital until Sunday because I hemorrhaged from one of my incisions and then required a blood transfusion and needed to be observed to make sure that the incisions were no longer bleeding.

Because I hemorrhaged so much I now am completely bruised which does not help when you are walking anywhere. You are always touching something that makes it hurt a lot more. But no pain no gain. I just have to remember that.
